Death counter

Keep the count through every attempt.

Use a custom counter as your Twitch death counter. Create a channel total called deaths, bump it with a chat command like !death, and reset it for the next run. Counters also support separate values per viewer, per command, or per viewer and command.

Commands

Chat commands that change the count.

CommandWho can run itExample reply or action
Everyone
Adds 1 to deaths.
Streamer and moderators
Adds 5 to deaths. A plus sign works too: !death +5.
Streamer and moderators
Removes 1 from deaths, to undo a miscount.

Your custom command with Bump a counter turned on does the counting, and its permission decides who can use it. A moderator or the streamer can add a signed number to set the step. Anyone else's number is ignored and the step stays +1.

Example

Make a !death command, then count with it.

Default replies with sample names and numbers. Your saved messages can differ.

Before you start

  • Connect ItsBagelBot to your Twitch channel and create a custom counter on the Counters page.
  • Make a custom command with Bump a counter turned on, and pick your deaths counter.
How it works

Create a counter for your next run.

  1. Create the channel total

Add a channel counter named deaths on the Counters page. Counters are created, set, reset, renamed and deleted there.

  2. Count each death

Make a custom command such as !death, turn on its Bump a counter option and pick deaths. Each use adds 1. Channel-point rewards can bump counters too.

  3. Fix or restart the count

A moderator can type !death -1 to undo a miss or !death 5 to add several at once. Reset or set deaths on the Counters page for a fresh attempt.

Good to know

Choose what each value belongs to.

Channel total
A channel counter holds one shared value. It suits a death count for the streamer or a total of wins during a challenge.
Per-viewer count
A viewer counter keeps separate values for each viewer. Create one on the Counters page, then use a configured command or reward to count for its caller.
Per-command count
A command counter separates values by command. The viewer-and-command scope separates them by both the viewer and the command.
Dashboard adjustments
Counters are created, set, reset, renamed and deleted on the Counters page. Use the scope that matches the total you want to keep.

A custom death counter changes when a configured command or reward bumps it, or when you edit it on the Counters page. Creating the counter does not detect deaths in a game.

FAQ

Setup questions.

How do I add a Twitch death counter?

Create a channel counter named deaths on the Counters page. Then make a custom command such as !death, turn on its Bump a counter option and pick deaths. Each use adds 1.

Does the bot automatically detect deaths?

A custom counter records updates you send to it. Bump it with a chat command, adjust it on the Counters page, or set up a channel-point reward to update it.

Can viewers run !death?

Yes, when the command's permission allows everyone. Each use adds 1 for them. Only a moderator, lead moderator or the broadcaster can add a number to choose the step.

How do I reset the death count?

Reset deaths on the Counters page. To correct the total instead, set it there to the replacement number, or have a moderator type !death -1 to remove one.

Can I keep a separate count for each viewer?

Yes. Use the viewer scope when you create the counter. Channel scope shares one total; viewer scope keeps a separate value for each viewer. Command and viewer-and-command scopes are also supported.

Set up the count before your next run.
